Flirty chat
Chat With Singles: Flirty Chat Rooms and Private Messages
One to one, in a room or in a group: choose how you like to talk.
On Forget Dinner you can chat with singles by private message, in members-only chat rooms and in private group chats of up to 50 people. Classic members send a limited number of messages a day and can reply to any VIP member; VIP removes the limit.
Three ways to chat
Private messages
The classic one to one. Every member can read and answer messages from VIP and VIP Plus members, and Classic members can send a few of their own each day.
Chat rooms
Members-only rooms for group conversation, open to VIP and VIP Plus members. Good for finding your feet before you message someone alone.
Private groups
Start a chat of up to 50 people, mixing VIP members and Classic members. Handy for planning a night out in one place.
Getting going
How to start a conversation
The first line only has to be easy to answer.
Read the profile
Pick something specific: a place, an interest, a joke in the headline.
Ask one question
Make it light and open. People answer questions faster than compliments.
Match their energy
Short reply, short message. Long reply, say a bit more.
Suggest meeting
When it flows, propose a drink or a walk. Date ideas help you choose.
Who is there
Chat to women and men who want casual company
Around six in ten members are in their mid-thirties to mid-fifties, so that is the age group you are most likely to be chatting with. Women and men are about level in the UK, so you can chat to women, chat to men or simply chat with singles, and your suggestions follow the age range and distance you set.
Tone matters more than technique. For a lighter touch, read how to flirt, and for the awkward first message, the profile and message tips.
Members in the UK by age, as shares of everyone listed.
Conversation starters
What to talk about
Shy at the start? Everyone is. Keep it specific, light and a little bit curious, and let the other person set the pace.
Something from their profile
A photo location, an interest or a line in their headline. It shows you read it, which is rarer than it should be.
A this-or-that
Coffee or wine, hills or beach, early start or late night. Small choices open big stories.
Their favourite spot
Ask where they like to go in their town. It tells you how they spend their time and gives you somewhere to suggest.
The weekend
What they have planned is an easy way to learn how they live, and a natural lead-in to meeting.
Ground rules
Keep the chat easy and safe
Do
- Say what you are after, kindly and early.
- Ask before sharing any image.
- Take the chat at the pace you both enjoy.
- Block and report anyone who pushes you.
Skip
- Moving to another app on request.
- Sharing your number, address or workplace.
- Replying to anyone who asks for money.
- Rudeness when someone says no.
Sensitive images arrive blurred until the receiver chooses to look, and a warning appears if someone tries to take you off the site. The safety page explains the rest.
Chat made easy: your questions answered
Can I chat on Forget Dinner without paying?
Classic membership includes a limited number of messages each day, and you can read and reply to any message from a VIP or VIP Plus member. Chat rooms, group chats and unrestricted messaging need VIP, which lifts those limits.
What are the chat rooms like?
They are members-only group conversations for VIP and VIP Plus members. Join one to see the tone of the site and get chatting before you message anyone one to one. The same rules apply as everywhere else: be kind and respect a no.
How big can a private group chat be?
Up to 50 people, and VIP members can mix VIP and Classic members in the same chat. It is a tidy way to plan a night out without handing out phone numbers, because everyone stays on the site.
Is it safe to chat with singles online?
It is safer when you keep the conversation on the site, never send money and meet in public. Forget Dinner adds tools: blocking, reporting, blurred images and alerts when someone tries to move the chat elsewhere.
